Privacy

Last updated 1 September 2026

This page explains what happens to data when you visit johndavidwhalen.info. The short version is that this site sets no cookies, runs no advertising, and collects nothing that identifies you personally.

Who is responsible

This site is operated by SYF Consulting LLC, whose principal is JohnDavid Whalen, working from Lisbon, Portugal. For anything on this page, write to self@johndavidwhalen.info.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies. Nothing is stored on your device to recognise you, and no consent banner is needed because there is nothing to consent to.

Analytics

Visits are measured with Google Analytics running in cookieless mode. Storage consent is denied by default, which means Google Analytics places no cookie and keeps no identifier for you on your device or across sessions.

What this produces is aggregate counts: how many people opened a page, which pages get read, and roughly which country and device type traffic comes from. Your IP address is processed briefly to derive that approximate location and is not retained by me. I cannot see who you are, and I cannot follow you from one visit to the next.

Hosting and fonts

The site is hosted on GitHub Pages. Like any web host, GitHub receives your IP address in order to deliver the page to you, and handles it under its own privacy policy.

Typefaces load from Google Fonts, which means your browser requests those files from Google and Google receives your IP address as part of that request. If you would rather avoid this, a content blocker will stop the request and the site will still work with a fallback typeface.

Booking a call

The booking links go to Calendly, which is a separate company. Anything you enter there, including your name, email address, and chosen time, is collected by Calendly and shared with me so I can attend the meeting. Calendly handles that data under its own privacy policy.

Email

If you email me, I hold your message and address for as long as the conversation stays useful, and I use it only to reply to you. I do not add you to a mailing list, because there is no mailing list. I do not sell, rent, or share your details with anyone.

Your rights

Under the General Data Protection Regulation you can ask me for a copy of any personal data I hold about you, ask me to correct it, ask me to delete it, or object to how it is used. Write to self@johndavidwhalen.info and I will respond within 30 days.

In practice, the only personal data I am likely to hold is an email exchange you started. If you believe I have handled your data badly, you can complain to the Portuguese data protection authority, the Comissao Nacional de Proteccao de Dados.

If this changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it.
